My time in Oz was well spent. It gave me a much needed rest and allowed me to recharge the batteries, so to speak. I met some really cool people while I was over there and got to see some really amazing things. Most of the time time we stayed with friends and family but when we did book accommodation we went first class all the way right down to the jacuzzi tub. A while back I talked to a consultant. I expected him to hand me some stone tablet with the keys to success. He just gave one real simple piece of advice. Stay in a first class resort. Your brain will remember what its like and, if you enjoy it, your subconscious mind will want to take you back. Living in style will be a memory not just a dream.
It sounded like good advice to me! So I started doing it.
The Possum Lady
Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Viddler video. I was at the Dream Factory the other day and was met with a special surprise. Rhonda Robinson AKA the Possum Lady brought in these cute little baby Opossums. Rhonda rehabilitates these guys and releases them back into the wild. Opossums are probably the most misunderstood animals in North America and they are far from the giant rat that some people think of them as.
Have you ever felt misunderstood?
Some facts Rhonda did not mention in the video
- When cornered possums will hiss and show their teeth but this is just an act they are very placid.
- If threat continues possum will “play possum” It will go into a coma like state and appear dead. It even secretes a smell similar to the smell of a dead animal.
- Opossums are immune to most diseases including Rabies
- They have an Opposable Thumb
Are you smarter than a squirrel?
The common squirrel (Rodent-us Cute-us). I know some people think of them as tree rats but I rather like the bushy tailed Friends.
Despite being small squirrels are a keystone species and one of the most successful animals on the planet. They inhabit five out of the seven continents. How do they do it?
It all starts with a burning desire for food in this case.
The Video above shows an Olympic level gymnastic skill as well as cognitive reasoning that you would scarcely imagine a rodent would have.
What the video does not show us however is how many times the squirrel fell while learning the obstacle course. Each time dusting himself off before starting all over again. He kept trying until he got to the prize at the end.
We often see people after they have arrived and say wow what an incredible athlete, what an amazing business person, or aren’t they lucky. But we didn’t see how many times they fell before hand.
If you are not willing to fall a couple of times maybe you could use a lesson from our furry Friends.
Bang your head
Do you ever feel like you’re just beating your head against a tree for no reason?
Sometimes if you just stop, take a deep breath, relax and reevaluate the situation you may gain a little perspective.
My friend Woody spent his whole life banging his head against a tree. Sometimes it’s tough work with little reward.
Sometimes with a little persistence and patience the rewards are quite juicy!
